Reinhausen to establish on-load tap-changer manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia
Paris, 1 September 2026. Reinhausen GmbH is establishing its own production facility for on-load tap changers in Saudi Arabia. To this end, the company signed a partnership agreement with the Saudi consultancy AKID Advisory on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, at the Global Investment Summit in Paris. Reinhausen plans to invest around €10 million by 2030.
The facility will be located in the Ash Sharqiyah Province of Saudi Arabia. To this end, Reinhausen is leasing an industrial facility with a floor area of 6,000 to 7,000 square meters, of which around 4,000 square meters will be used for production and operations. The site is designed to produce 500 units or more per year. The company aims to meet the expected demand from the Saudi market and the wider GCC region through 2030.
The site will manufacture vacuum on-load tap-changers as well as the ETOS® operating system for the automation and digitalization of power transformers. In addition to assembly and testing, the site will handle warehousing, logistics, service and sales. All products are world leading standards and latest technology.
Reinhausen established its Saudi subsidiary, Reinhausen Saudi Arabia Energy Company, in 2025 and appointed a local management team. The expansion of the production, industrial licensing, and the start of manufacturing will follow in early 2027.
Saudi Arabia is expanding its electricity grids
Saudi Arabia is accelerating investments in electricity grids, renewable energy and industrial development. Transformers and on-load tap-changers are essential for this: they keep the voltage stable when generation and consumption fluctuate. Reinhausen has been supplying the Kingdom for decades. Grid operators and industrial customers use the equipment in transmission grids, in the oil and gas industry, and in data centers. With on-site manufacturing, the company shortens delivery times and handles testing and servicing itself and supports the Saudi Vision 2030 programme.
AKID is supporting the implementation by assisting with site selection, the lease agreement, industrial and commercial licensing, and coordination with authorities and industry associations.
„Saudi Arabia is a growth market for us and a key country for the transformation of the energy infrastructure. Through local manufacturing, we are combining our world-leading technology with local capabilities and supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.“
Wilfried Breuer, Managing Director and Spokesperson for the Executive Management of Reinhausen GmbH
„What began as a market-entry strategy is evolving into a strong industrial presence in the region. We are aligning Reinhausen’s industrial and regulatory requirements with the local environment.“
Ranya Al Houthali, Chief Executive Officer of AKID Advisory
