The global demand for electricity will rise sharply in the coming years. On the one hand due to the growing population, but also due to the electrification of the mobility and heating sectors. This is initially good news for transformer manufacturers because the demand for the equipment that is crucial for grid expansion is enormous. However, production is becoming increasingly complex and digital solutions are essential in order to master the integration of renewable energies economically. At the same time, the global transformer business must comply with many different national regulations. How can the industry cope with these challenges?

Lean solutions for transformer manufacturers
Increasing electricity demand, digitalization, energy transition - the demands on transformers in the global grid expansion are manifold. MR offers manufacturers such as Nantong Hyosung Co. Ltd in China lean system solutions to master this complexity.
Lean system solution from a single source
MR offers an extensive portfolio of accessories such as intelligent sensors and monitoring solutions as well as the ETOS® digitalization solution. They are already specified for global use and comply with international standards. This enables manufacturers to reduce the complexity of transformer production. The ordering processes are also efficient, as all components come from a single source. Another advantage is MR's global service network, from which the transformer manufacturers' customers also benefit.
„Our plug-and-play system solutions not only reduce production costs, but also eliminate a lot of cable and installation work.“
Zhenyu Wu, Sales Engineer at MR China Ltd.
Cooperation with Nantong Hyosung in China
The Chinese transformer manufacturer Nantong Hyosung Co. Ltd. was convinced by this and therefore entered a strategic partnership with MR. The company, which belongs to the Korean conglomerate Hyosung, produces power transformers in Nantong, China, not only for energy producers, but also for public and industrial grid operators worldwide. 75 percent of its total production goes abroad.
are supplied by Nantong Hyosung
is the export share of Nantong Hyosung’s production
The ETOS® system solution for the digitalization of power transformers in particular helps Nantong Hyosung to meet demanding customer requirements. As it works based on the plug-and-play principle, it not only reduces production costs, but also eliminates a lot of cable and assembly work on site. "All in all, the cooperation is a classic win-win situation for everyone involved" confirms Jae Seong Jang, Managing Director of Nantong Xiaoxing Transformer Co.
Three practical examples
Example 1: Spanish solar power
For the substation of a Spanish solar park, Nantong Hyosung supplied four transformers with a comprehensive solution consisting of tap changers, intelligent MSENSE® sensors, ETOS® transformer operating systems and MESSKO® accessories from MR.
Example 2: Digital in Texas
560 GWh of electricity will be produced annually by a solar park in Texas, which was connected to the grid at the end of 2023. Nantong Hyosung was able to help in this regard by using the open system solution ETOS® for the long-term project planning.
Example 3: Grid expansion in Mozambique
The state energy company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) needed new transformers to expand its grid. For this project, MR supplied the maintenance-free MESSKO® MTRAB® 2.5 dehumidifying breather and the MSENSE® DGA 9 online oil analyzer.
Solutions from a single source for transformer manufacturers
In addition to its proven on-load tap-changers, Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen offers transformer manufacturers a comprehensive portfolio of products, services, and system solutions for distribution and power transformers. These include:
