KEPCO and Reinhausen agree on technology transfer in asset evaluation

Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and Reinhausen GmbH have signed a technology-transfer and cooperation agreement in Berlin on 20 May 2026. Under the agreement, KEPCO transfers selected analytical and evaluation methodologies for condition-based assessment of energy assets from its diagnostic system SEDA (Substation Equipment Diagnosis & Analysis System). Reinhausen will integrate these methodologies into its Asset Performance Management (APM) platform TESSA® APM 2.0, making proven approaches from grid operation available for international application. The collaboration builds on experience from one of the world’s largest and most complex power systems. 

Asset analytics from live grid operations

Both partners emphasize that this is not a pilot or research collaboration, but the international transfer of methodologies validated in operational grid environments. 

SEDA was developed based on long-term operational experience in high- and extra-high-voltage networks and enables structured and comparable assessment of asset condition as well as early identification of technical risks. Asset evaluation plays a central role in maintaining system reliability and supporting long-term asset strategies.

Because the evaluation logic is based on real system events, it provides a consistent basis for asset-related decision-making under real-world conditions. The methodologies are derived from operational data rather than purely theoretical or simulation-based approaches. 

“Since the introduction of SEDA in 2021, KEPCO has achieved a total of 77 cases of fault prevention through digital asset monitoring and condition assessment by 2025. In particular, KEPCO prevented 16 potential failures in 2024 and 17 cases in 2025. These cases demonstrate how digital technologies and predictive diagnostics can effectively prevent major outages, equipment damage, and unplanned investment,” says Yeo. 

The transferred assessment models are embedded in Reinhausen’s open and scalable platform environment TESSA® APM 2.0. They connect condition data, asset parameters, and assessment results in a transparent and reproducible way. In this setup, KEPCO’s operational analytics are directly linked with Reinhausen’s APM platform. 

This allows application across different grid environments while ensuring structured and repeatable use in asset management processes. 

Relevance for asset management

With increasing grid utilization and aging infrastructure, asset evaluation requires models that combine operational experience with consistent data structures and transparent logic. This is particularly relevant when large volumes of heterogeneous data must be translated into decision-relevant insights. 

The transfer of proven evaluation approaches supports a consistent view on asset condition and enables prioritization of maintenance and investment measures.

As part of the cooperation, Reinhausen integrates KEPCO’s operational experience into its platform environment, enabling transparent assessments, early risk detection, and consistent asset strategies. 

“This agreement is a milestone because it formalizes a partnership approach to accelerate digital asset intelligence. It strengthens our ability to combine domain expertise with platform-driven delivery, and to scale outcomes internationally,” says Breuer.
