Mission in the Mexican jungle: Sociedad Cooperativa Cruz Azul, a cement company with almost 90 years of history in México, needed to modernize two old GE transformers at its plant in Lagunas Oaxaca. There is little space on oil platforms. This is also the case on an offshore gas and oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The Business Unit Power Quality (PQ) has been continuously working on the expansion of the energy supplier infrastructure in the island state of Sri Lanka since 1998. Last week another seven 5 Mvar-33kV filter circuit systems with a total capacity of 35 Mvar were handed over to the local customer. These seven plants represented the remaining of 51 filter circuit plants (5 Mvar 33kV each) which have been ordered and installed in the 33kV distribution network in Sri Lanka since 2014.

In rural areas, far away from power plants, the power distribution and trans-mission network are rather weak with respect to the short circuit power level. Because of that, these kind of networks are very sensitive in terms of transient events (e.g. switching events).

MR´s service activities in Turkey have grown significantly in recent years. Effective 1 April 2019, Wilfried Breuer joined the management board of Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH (MR).

A high level of importance is placed on the operational reliability of transformers in the field of energy distribution. A functioning cooling system is vital when it comes to ensuring this reliability and in extending the transformer's service life.

Alongside increased winding and oil temperatures, the moisture content in the oil is one of the most critical factors that can massively shorten the service life of a transformer, since both temperature and moisture can damage the paper insulation and therefore also have a negative effect on the thermal insulating properties. A Chinese steel works experienced this first hand at the end of 2018, when moisture levels triggered early warnings. Thanks to the MR EXPIOTECH MMS Moisture Management System, they were able to reduce the moisture content and prevent their transformers from failing prematurely.

In August 2018, Reinhausen Mexico (RMX) successfully completed the first UVT-LTX retrofit project in Mexico in order to help a company located in the Mexican state of Nuevo León which was having problems with a UVT on-load tap-changer manufactured by Westinghouse in 1981. The UVT needed to be repaired because the aged vacuum interrupters were causing disruptions of the monitoring system.

Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen (MR), together with its South Korean subsidiary Reinhausen Korea, the Korean energy expert Gridwiz and the energy startup Crocus Energy announced that they have concluded a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the development and supply of an energy efficiency solution.
