New Power Composites building in India nearing completion
The factory of our joint venture "Aditya Birla Power Composites" in India will be completed at the end of 2020.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place in the middle of February to kick off construction of the factory where hollow composite insulators will be manufactured. Despite the global COVID-19 pandemic, we are still on schedule and the factory will be completed at the end of 2020.
Acquisition of the systems, which is an international process, is currently being finalized. After final certification, delivery to customers is planned for the first half of 2021.
Once all of the necessary basic materials have been acquired, all of the production steps can be performed on site. Operations will start with manufacturing a wound fiberglass-reinforced pipe. After mechanical processing and bonding with aluminum flanges, the pipe will be encapsulated in silicone by means of HTV injection molding technology so that a finished hollow composite insulator can be delivered.
With the new location in India, our Power Composites business segment will now have branches in three locations (Germany, France, India) and is the only supplier in the world to have all of the technologies required for producing hollow composite insulators, enabling it to meet all requirements in all market segments. At the same time, this will make MR the first manufacturer of these kinds of components in India, which is important not only in terms of the growing local demand for high-quality products, but also in terms of the globally competitive conditions at the location itself.
