Reliable Power for AI Data Centers
Reinhausen and Siemens are developing a special transformer to meet the requirements of the AI era.
Through a strategic partnership, Siemens and Reinhausen (MR) are driving the future of power supply solutions for AI data centers. To this end, the companies are jointly developing a solid-state transformer (SST) and will begin serial production of it.

Solid-state transformers play a key role in these large, energy-intensive facilities. What is an SST?
A solid-state transformer (SST) is a transformer that combines traditional transformer technology with modern power electronics and digital control. This enables it to monitor and actively control current flows in real time. This ensures a highly flexible power supply with very high power density, even under the extreme load fluctuations typical of modern AI data centers. From today’s perspective, however, SSTs will not replace conventional transformers with tap changers, but will instead complement them in certain demanding applications. To put it succinctly:
Transformers and on-load tap-changers reliably and effectively transmit and regulate current within fixed ranges. An SST actively and highly dynamically controls how the current is delivered.
