MR acquires minority share in BSS Hochspannungstechnik GmbH

With effect from 28 May 2025, Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH (MR) has acquired a minority share in BSS Hochspannungstechnik GmbH (BSS), based in Sindelfingen (Baden-Württemberg) Germany. This investment completes MR's portfolio in the field of partial discharge monitoring and detection (PD) in transformers and gas-insulated switchgears (GIS). The management of BSS remains in the experienced hands of Dr. Martin Siegel, who will continue the strategy of establishing a world-leading PD monitoring system.

The constantly growing demand for energy goes hand in hand with increasing delivery times and prices for electrical network equipment. These are driving requirements for supply reliability and the desire for an ever longer lifespan. Because there are fewer and fewer skilled personnel available for aging and increasingly utilized equipment fleets, a market for data-based asset performance management (APM) solutions has emerged. PD monitoring is an indispensable condition indicator for monitoring GIS systems and transformers. MR's participation in BSS is a logical step for both companies, as it will enable PD monitoring solutions to be integrated into ETOS® (Embedded Transformer Operating System) and thus distributed more quickly worldwide.

BSS: Technology leader in (UHF) PD monitoring

BSS Hochspannungstechnik GmbH was founded in 2013 by PhD students from the Institute of Power Transmission and High Voltage Technology at the University of Stuttgart and specializes in the development of sensors and monitoring systems for PD detection. The company currently has seven employees and is a technology leader in ultra-high frequency (UHF) PD monitoring of power transformers. BSS will continue to operate worldwide and independently of MR under its well- established brand.
