The more renewable energies flow through our grids, the stronger the power fluctuations become - also due to weather conditions. To compensate for overloads on the one hand and bottlenecks on the other, expensive redispatch measures are usually necessary. Phase-shifting transformers (PSTs) enable distribution system operators like Tennet to control load flows, save costs, and keep grids stable despite volatile generators: They shift the overload from one power line to others in such a way that the grid as a whole is better utilized. Four new PSTs with on-load tap-changers from MR now ensure this at the Würgau substation. In the video, this project is discussed by Dr. Florian Martin, Head of Asset Technology at TenneT, and Wilfried Breuer, Managing Director of MR.
