Los deshumificadores de aire son tubos cilíndricos perforados transparentes que contienen gel de silicona químicamente puro. Absorbe la humedad, indicando el grado de saturación mediante un cambio de color. El cilindro vacío está hecho de PMMA (o vidrio templado) y está protegido por un marco de acero inoxidable con ventanas que permiten la inspección visual del color del gel de sílice.
Existen diferentes variantes para distintos tamaños de transformador, con válvulas mecánicas o hidráulicas y varias bridas.
