The following project can rightly be called a masterpiece. We were contacted by an Austrian energy provider with a very challenging job: one phase shifter comprising three single-phase transformers. MR's solution: three sets, each comprising three VACUTAP® VR® on-load tap-changers combined with two COMTAP® ARS de-energized tap-changers each.

Given the separate locations, the on-load tap-changers cannot be connected via linkage. Each tap changer and de-energized tap-changer therefore has to be driven by its own motor-drive unit – meaning a total of nine motor-drive units which require additional function monitoring alongside electromechanical monitoring to ensure safe system operation and perfect functioning.

The project was realized within 8 weeks thanks to close cooperation between order processing and project management, control and software with special programming on four TAPCON® 260 voltage regulators. One TAPCON® 260 is fitted in each of the tap changer drives of the individual phases (3x slave) and there is one master TAPCON® 260 in the control room.
All three sets, comprising on-load tap-changer, de-energized tap-changer and voltage regulator, were intensively tested by MR in a special test rig. To guarantee optimum commissioning of this special solution, an MR team worked on site with the customer.
