15 OILTAP® V for more clean energy in Argentina

The Entidad Binacional Yacyretá is a bank dam and a hydroelectric power plant in Argentina and with a length of around 65 km is one of the longest in the world. The total volume of the dam is almost 66 million m³. The 20 turbines have a capacity of 3000 MW. An increase in capacity of around 25% is currently planned.

As a part of this process, the bank dam will be increased from 75 m to 83 m in height and three new turbines put into operation, which generate a further 480 MW. In addition, 5 turbines with a total of 270 MW will be added with the project “la represa Aña Cuá”. The total extension will thus be 750 MW.

For the regulation of the new 8.5 MVA transformers and the 33 kV line, the operator has decided to implement 15 OILTAP® V III on-load tap-changers with TAPCON® 230 voltage regulators. The OILTAP® V is an extremely compact tap-changer for regulating low and medium-sized capacities. The 15 OILTAP® V III will ensure a clean and reliable energy supply for Argentina in the future.
