Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen (MR) was ranked second in the German "Best Innovator" competition 2012/13 in Berlin. It beat off 100 competitors in the competition jointly organized by the WirtschaftsWoche magazine and A.T. Kearney consultancy firm.
Rational AG won first place while Dr. Fritz Faulhaber GmbH and Uzin Utz AG came joint third. The patron of the Best Innovator competition is the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, Philipp Rösler. This is the eighth time that the competition has run. The focal point of this year's competition was "Better use of supplier innovation" which rewarded successful and sustainable innovation management. This includes quantitative performance figures and qualitative performance features surveyed by means of a questionnaire. A jury of experts evaluated the results to pick the finalists, who were then visited by representatives of the jury. The ultimate winners were decided in a final meeting of the jury.
The jury included:
Ernst Burgbacher, Parl. State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and Federal Government Commissioner for SMEs and Tourism
Hans-Jörg Bullinger, Senator at Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft
Roland Tichy, Editor-in Chief of WirtschaftsWoche
Dr. Kai Engel, Partner of the A.T. Kearney consultancy firm and head of the Innovation and R&D Management Division
"In terms of innovations, our winners are one step ahead of other companies. They prove that Germany can still deliver world-leading results when innovations are needed," said Dr. Kai Engel, Partner at A.T. Kearney consultancy firm, who initiated the competition. "Over the last nine years, innovation management has increased in importance as a core competence. A company can only achieve profitable growth if it puts in place interoperability between all functions as part of effective innovation management – and the Best Innovator winners have proved this to be the case.“
