Customers in the most different countries benefit from the Ethernet highway. As first manufacturer with integrated IEC 61850, we can already look back on several succesful projects.

It all started with a pilot project for German utility RWE Power, yet TAPCON® 260 with IEC 61850 is employed in more than 10 projects. In each we were able to fullfil the specific requirements of the control system provider. This was due to our software experience and flexibility in adaptations. In addition, we offer well-proven software solutions for special regulating or control requests. Thus automatic control via SCADA-system (Remote) is feasible, but also operation directly at the device (Local), for instance with laptop computer and visualization software TAPCON-trol System. Certainly this software belongs to the scope of delivery of each LTC-control (voltage regulator) with no extra charges.
Competitive edge of the Ethernet-interface is the transfer rate. It lies between 10 and 100Mbit per second. Therewith the whole data exchange can be realized via one cable only. In addition IEC 61850 allows - owing to its open structure - to network easily the miscellaneous substation products. That way the TAPCON® LTC-control is integrated in the station-bus. This integration is done just in advance of the construction work by exchanging data files with the substation constructor. And finally the substation operator can easily expand his facilities - thanks to IEC 61850.
This concept is of particulal interest to every substation operator: We already realized projects for large utilities like RWE or the Italian operator Terna Spa. But TAPCON® 260 with integrated IEC 61850 was also delivered to small utilities, for instance Empresa de Electricidade da Madeira. As Terna operates high-voltage substations (380/220kV), the project on the portuguese island was for 6,6kV. Among other customers are industrial companies like the Solvay Group in Spain or Belgium.
Thereby all customers benefit from our long-term experience in voltage regulation. Furthermore, as manufacturer of on-load tap-changers, we have a headstart in terms of knowledge. Thus we extend constantly our product range and keep on informing you about IEC 61850 developments on this place.
