Successful JEC certification for VACUTAP® VM® on-load tap-changer
Successfully tested VACUTAP® VM®, JEC Type Test Consultant Hitachi Ltd. delegation, MR Test Center Engineers and MR Germany/Japan Sales
MR's VACUTAP® VR® and VV® tap-changers have already been successfully certified in line with the strict Japanese standard JEC 2220-2007. Now the test of VACUTAP® VM® is also finished. This means that the complete range of successful MR vacuum tap-changers are available now for Japanese Electric Power Companies (JEPCOs).
VACUTAP® VM® suitable for retrofit solution
There is a big interest from Japanese Electric Power Companies especially in the VACUTAP® VM®. This is the class of tap-changers which is used most in Japan. For cost reasons there is a trend towards extending the transformer life time to up to 65 or 70 years. The VM® with its retrofit capabilities is an important solution to reach this goal, because the VM® diverter switch insert fits into all original MR OILTAP® M-type tap-changers and also into nearly all M-type tap-changers produced under license of MR by various manufacturers. The transformer therefore can quickly be equipped with the modern vacuum technology for a really reasonable price. MR’s VACUTAP® VM® has a maintenance interval of 300,000 switching operations! When combined with a TAPMOTION® ED motor-drive unit and with the maintenance-free MTraB® dehydrating breather, transformer operator has a complete package to really reduce the maintenance costs dramatically.
Supported by Hitachi Ltd. Power Systems Co.
In order to ensure that the tests did in fact comply with the requirements of the Japanese operators, MR’s test engineers were supported by an experienced Japanese consultant. Our very special thanks therefore goes to Hitachi Ltd. Power Systems Co.. Valuable assistance was also provided by our Japanese subsidiary MR Japan.
All tests of VACUTAP® VM® were successfully completed in early 2013. In a final appraisal, the Hitachi engineers confirmed the successful execution of the tests, as well as the compliance of documentation with the strict requirements.
