Running an electric arc furnace represents a challenge for the smelting works' power supply. The electric arc voltage has to be regulated ideally to avoid grid perturbations and to ensure effective steel production. The furnace transformer needs to deliver maximum output and it must be possible for the electric arc voltage to be stepped perfectly. An efficient tap-changer with a large number of switching steps is therefore the key to efficient steel production. To avoid expensive downtimes, robust and low-maintenance tap-changers and transformer components are therefore essential.
