Voltage regulated shunt reactors are an economical and effective way of compensating for reactive power. They ensure a good balance of reactive power and can be used in overhead lines and cable systems at all voltage levels. Unlike non-regulated shunt reactors, with this voltage regulated variant, an on-load tap-changer gradually sets the power required at that time. Being able to adapt to changes in the grid makes this solution a future-proof investment. Compared with non-regulated variants, voltage regulated shunt reactors mean that fewer systems are needed, especially over long transmission sections. Peaks in voltage, as occur in certain grids when switching non-regulated shunt reactors on and off, aren't experienced in voltage regulated systems. What's more, voltage regulated shunt reactors can keep the voltage constant within certain limits and stabilize grids affected by seasonal or daily load fluctuations. Voltage regulated shunt reactors ensure a stable line voltage and improve operational reliability in the event of weather-related power fluctuations in particular.
