Tap-changer seminar with live maintenance in Iraq

From December 11 – 14, 2011 the MR colleagues held a tap-changer seminar for the employees of the Ministry of Electricity (MoE), the state-run energy supplier in Erbil, Iraq. What makes this seminar so special is that one day of theory is followed by three days of live maintenance on tap-changers in various transformer substations.

Around 30 MoE employees from various administrative districts took part in the MR seminar. On the theory day, they were provided with up-to-date information on innovations in the field of tap-changer technology and transformer accessories. The MR experts presented various topics in usage-based talks, including “Tap-Changers with Vacuum Tap-Changer Technology“, ”Retrofit Solutions for Tap-Changers“, ”Voltage Regulation“ and ”Maintenance and Training“.

Over the next three days, live performances were covered. The MR specialists performed routine maintenances on three different tap-changers. The seminar participants were able to follow the work live. After experiencing all the individual worksteps, the audience was also provided with useful background information and was able to put individual questions to the service technicians.

The practical part of the event, in particular, was very popular with the participants. We would like to take the opportunity thanking the entire team of MoE for the excellent organization and the kind hospitality during the visit of the MR delegation.

Such seminars function as an extremely effective instrument for intensifying customer relations. A large number of MR tap-changers are already being used in Iraq. As the thirst for energy in the entire Arab world continues to increase, the requirement for new tap-changers is still rising in Iraq.

Donation to German school Erbil
During their visit in Erbil, our MR colleagues handed over a check to the local German school. Here, Kurdish children are educated according to European standards. It is primarily the children of immigrant families who have returned home and whose parents are participating in the rebuilding of their country who benefit most from this education. Attending the German school ensures that existing knowledge is consolidated and reinforced and that the bonding with Germany and Europe is transferred to the next generation. However, children from the region around Erbil also profit from the offering of the German school and receive a more comprehensive school education here. The school is mostly funded by donations.

Impressed by the project and the work of the teaching staff, MR spontaneously declared itself willing to support the school with a donation of €5,000. Andreas Luger, responsible Area Sales Manager, handed over the check to school Principal Jürgen Ender. Andreas Luger explained MR’s commitment – “We don’t just want to ensure a reliable energy supply with our products, but also take on social responsibility. With our donation, we are supporting children and thus the future of the country“.
